I'm back to smoking regularly

The stress of my life lately has pushed me back on the smokes. I'm ashamed, yet I can't stop. I need to reduce the stress so I can finally get back off the smokes. I realize that is an excuse, sure.

Quitting smoking may be the hardest thing I ever do.

  • Don't be ashamed and don't give up. Set a quit-date.
I have just quit myself. I am only two weeks in. And, as far as stress goes, man....there's always something that's gonna stress you out. You just have to ride it out.

  • Talk to me.
I have been there, where you are.
    ok, after 32 yrs of smoking(started at 12 y/o)
    I stopped.
    4th time trying.
    I really wanted to.
    Did hypnotherapy.
    1 on 1 hypnotherapy.
    I am a non-smoker now and forever.
hopefully my wife will quit too!
    let me tell you how.
    I am not selling anything.
    Really happy I quit.
    But really want a cigar!
She has to decide, I am not pushing her.

  • You have to stay quit in the face of the stress...then you'll be successful. I'm 2 years quit and I run a quit smoking support group at a Long Island hospital. But Good luck to you!

What are you doing to quit? Cold Turkey (hope not!) Tobacco replacement? What?

  • You wrote you felt ashamed. The paradox is that distress is a trigger. You want to smoke, then you smoke, feel bad, and therefore want to smoke more--it's a cycle. The way out is to honor your smoking! It has obviously added something positive to your life, otherwise you would have never smoked. Honoring your choice to smoke makes it easier to make a commitment to honor a choice to grow into a non-smoker.
